Description: Looking north down L'Enfant Promenade at the rear of the James V. Forrestal Building main building. The Forrestal Building straddles the street, and is raised up from the ground on stilt-like columns to form a kind of colossal arch which looms heavily over the Promenade. The Forrestal Annex can be seen on the right side of this image. L'Enfant Promenade itself is the red brick path in the center of the image (bracketed on either side by lighter brick road bumps). The street which forms L'Enfant Place SW is on either side of the Promenade. The Smithsonian Castle, the administrative headquarters for the Smithsonian Institution, can just be seen underneath the Forrestal Main Building (looking through the passage formed by L'Enfant Promenade and on the other side of Independence Avenue SW).
