Description: Southern limit of permafrost according to Karl Ernst von Baer (1843), and other authors. The southern limits shown in 1843 by Baer correspond well with the actual limits defined by Jerry Brown (1998). Baer did not include the mountain permafrost occurrences in Central Asia, as he had not visited these areas. Map drawn and published by Lorenz King (ed.), 2001.
