Transcript: Op huijden, den laetsten (dagh van) maij 1664, soo / heeft Willem Hoffmeijer, op approbatie van(den) / heer directeur der colonije Rensselaerswijck, / gekocht, ten behoeve van(den) heer patroon en mede / directeure der gemelte colonije, van / de indiaenen Ansinanet ende Squishecan, / sijnde Mahicanders, soo voor haer selven als / haere bloetverwante(n) en erffgenaeme(n), de welcke / bekenden versocht en in absoluten vrijen / eijgendom overgedraegen te hebben bij desen, / seeckere drije eijlanden, gelegen op de Noort / Revier tusschen de eerste en tweede spruijt tegens / over het Greijne Eijlant. Ende dat met alle / de gerechtichede(n), preemenentien en prerogative(n) / van dien. Met allen ’t gene daer aen dependeert, / sonder dat sij eenige actie(n) / off pretentie(n) daer op / meer sijn behoudende. Waer voore(n) sij v(er)coopers / bekennen ten dancke en contentemente voldae(n) / ende betaelt te wesen met de naergenoemde / cargesoenen: Twee combeerse(n), / twee roers, / twee ketels, / vier gupsen cruijt, / twee staeven loot, / een carpoes, / twee hembden, / thien vadem seewan, / vijff vadem toback, / een kinder duffels rockje, / een kinder hembtje, / ses messen, / een bijl, / een dissel, / twee notassjes, / twee paer cousse(n), / een duffelse rock. Belovende derhalven hier tegens nimmer meer / te sullen doen, noch laeten geschieden, in (Reverse:) geeniger maniere(n). Alles ter / goeder trouwen. Translation[1]: To-day, the last (day) of May 1664, Willem Hoffmeijer bought with the approbation of the honorable director of the Colony of Rensselaerwyck, to the benefit of the Lord Patroon and his co-director of said Colony, from the Indians Ansinaneth and Squischecan, Mahicanders, acting for themselves and for their blood relations and heirs, who acknowledge to have sold and conveyed herewith as absolute free property, certain three islands in the North river between the first and second (river) split, opposite the Green Island. This (being done) with all privileges, preeminences and prerogatives thereof and all appendices and dependencies thereto belonging. Without reserving for themselves any claim or pretension whatever thereto: for which they, the grantors, acknowledge to have been fully and satisfactorily paid for with the following goods: Two rugs, two muskets, two kettles, four handfuls of powder, two bars of lead, one fur cap, two shirts, ten strings of wampum, five strings of tobacco, one child's coat of duffels, one child's shirt, six knives, one hatchet, one adze, two pouches, two pairs of socks, one duffel coat. They promise therefore never to do nor allow to be done anything contrary hereto. All in good faith, done in the Colony of Rensselaerwyck, date as above, interpreted by Jacob Theunissen and Jan Mangelsen (well versed in the Mahican tongue) hereto requested. Willem Hoffmeyer.
