There is a surprising difference between the dishes prepared with Libox and those without this precious condiment. Founding of the first beet sugar factory by Achard. [The] chemist Marggraf (1709-1782) was the first to discover that one could remove the sugar cane not only [from] exotic [plants] but also [from] some European plants such as beets. His pupil Frederick Charles Achard (1753-1821) knew how to give a practical application of this discovery, by creating Cunern, with the assistance of the King, a beet sugar factory. This event was the starting point for the development of sugar industry in Europe, where sugar was very scarce and expensive.
