Description: The roadtrip stops in Coeur d’ Alene - a “gem of the north” - valued by locals and visitors alike for its beautiful scenery, recreational opportunities and variety of amenities. This serene, scenic area is also the perfect spot to escape crowds! Beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene offers outstanding fishing, hiking, boating and nature viewing. Three boat launch sites are available at Blackwell Island, Mineral Ridge and Killarney Lake. Overnight boating guests will enjoy three boat-in campgrounds at Popcorn Island, Mica Bay and Windy Bay Boater Parks. Hiking in this area is a popular way to view spectacular vistas of Lake Coeur d’ Alene. The 3.3-mile Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail is an invigorating and educational hike. As visitors meander down this trail, they will learn about forest plants, animals and their interrelationships at 22 stations. Wildlife viewing is a key attraction to this region. Each winter, from November through February, a migrating population of up to 150 bald eagles visits the area to feed on spawning kokanee salmon. BLM and partners host bald eagles tours and counts each year. And the BLM and partners host an osprey cruise annually for the public, with live bird exhibits from local birding experts. You’ll find lakes and mountains around every curve on this scenic tour of the countryside.
