It was a celebration of the achieve-ments of the fathers who made the wilderness blossom as therose — a celebration that called to mind the achievements of allthese hundred years; the story of the performance — the triumphover the savage, the subduing of the wilderness, the building of thehome of peace, the erection of a great commonwealth and pop-ulous communities. Credit for the organized effort that led up to this grandcelebration is due the Bezaleel Wells Historical Society, whichwas formed with this object in view; but not only this, it hasgathered data of history to which those .who celebrate the secondcentennial will fall heir, and rejoice that this organization wasmore thoughtful than the pioneer fathers along this line. Gallagher and Frank Stokes,trustees, has been faithful to its trust and out of it grew the move-ment whose climax marks an epoch in the history of a greatpeople, and is here recorded. George W. McCook was made president of the centennialorganization; Chas. Gallagher vice-president, D. W. Matlack sec-retary, Frank H. Kerr corresponding secretary, and D. J. Sinclairtreasurer. An executive committee was selected as follows: Geo.A. Maxwell, chairman; Robert McGowan, J. J. Gill, S. Laubheim,Hugh McGinnis, C. H. Steele, Winfield Scott, Wm. Vermillion,D. U. McCullough.
