Description: The postal service of Norway issued a stamp in 1999 celebrating the false fact that the paper clip was invented in 1899 by a Norwegian. The background depicts his German Patenschrift from 1901, but the clip in the foregound is the common Gem clip, never patented, but introduced in 1892. The clip patented by Johan Vaaler in Germany and USA was not convenient and was never manufactured.
