Description: The image was originally published in Literary Digest magazine on January 20, 1923, referencing the destruction of the town of Rosewood, Florida. Its veracity is somewhat disputed. Eva Jenkins, a Rosewood survivor, testified that she knew of no such structure in the town, that it was perhaps an outhouse. Rosewood houses were painted and most of them neat. However, the Florida Archives lists the image as representing the burning of a structure in Rosewood. (D'Orso, Michael (1996). Like Judgment Day: The Ruin and Redemption of a Town Called Rosewood, Grosset/Putnam. ISBN 0399141472, p. 238–239) (Jones, et al, "Incident at Rosewood", p. 57.)
