Description: The American Nuclear Society designated the Sodium Reactor Experiment (SRE) a Nuclear Historical Landmark on November 13, 1985. Site located at the Category:Santa Susana Field Laboratory in the Simi Hills of Southern California. The Sodium Reactor experienced a significant partial meltdown in 1959, and others in the early 1960s. Currently the former site (SRE bldg. demolished 2000s) is part of a DOE-Boeing Superfund Site soil/groundwater cleanup project.
