Description: In 1864 Daniel Rowntree Somerset purchased the land and built his “U“ shaped house with granite external walls and shingle roof and it is he who named the Estate St John’s Wood. He resided there for four years, leaving after the death of his wife. The next occupier was George Rogers Harding, initially a young Barrister who became a prominent Judge. Harding then carried out major extensions to the residence, out-houses and yards. This is a photo of the Residence with the alterations in 1880s.
