Not long ago, too, Gen. Horace Porter told ofhow Abraham Lincoln once found three mother-less kittens in a tent in General Grants camp andforthwith took them under his coat, and, in themidst of the crushing cares of that anxious time,saw to it that they were cared for. These littledeeds of kindness tell of the tenderness towardthe weak and helpless that goes ever with thestrength of a great and simple soul.
