Description: St Mary's Church, North Elmham, Norfolk, hatchment for George Milles, 4th Baron Sondes (1794-1874), styled Hon. George Watson until 1820 and Hon. George Milles from 1820 to 1836, the second son of Lewis Watson, 2nd Baron Sondes, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Milles (1767-1818), widow of Maj Gen Sir Henry Tucker Montresor KCB, and only daughter and heiress of Richard Milles, of North Elmham, Norfolk, and of Nackington, Kent, by his wife Mary Elizabeth Tanner, only only daughter and heiress of Rev Thomas Tanner DD, Canon of Canterbury (by his wife Mary Potter, dau. of Most Rev John Potter DD, Archbishop of Canterbury 1737-47), son of Rt Rev Thomas Tanner DD, Bishop of St Asaph 1732-35. He fought at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). He changed his surname to Milles, that of his mother's family, on 27 December 1820, in accordance with the will of his grandfather Richard Milles. He inherited Milles' estate at North Elmham in Norfolk. He married Eleanor Knatchbull, 5th daughter of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 8th Baronet. Arms: Ermine, a fer de moline / millrind between two martlets in pale sable on a chief engrailed azure two wings conjoined and expanded or (Milles of Nackington, Kent (canting arms)) impaling: Azure, three crosses-crosslet fitchée bendwise between two bendlets or (Knatchbull), with a coronet of a baron above.
