Description: In 1876 Samuel Farr (1827-1918) drew up a Grecian design for a wooden church to seat 1,200. Because suitable timber would not be available for six months, Farr produced specifications for the same design in brick. Peter Hyndman's tender of £7,999 was accepted in Sept. The foundation stone was laid on 6 November 1876 and the building opened on 28 October 1877. Because of its dangerous condition, the tower was demolished in 1962.
