Description: Edward George Blume's residence, Stanley Hall, in Ascot, Brisbane, ca. 1913 This large masonry residence was erected in 1885-86 as a single-storeyed building for successful Brisbane produce dealer John William Forth. In 1890 the house was remodelled and two-storeyed additions were constructed for the subsequent owner, Western Queensland pastoralist, Herbert Hunter. Hunter was a successful grazier and horse racing enthusiast and appears to have acquired the house for its proximity to Eagle Farm Racecourse. In 1889 he commissioned Brisbane architect, GHM Addison, to remodel the house and design extensive additions. The house was virtually rebuilt in 1889-90 with an upper storey and tower being added. A gabled timber coachhouse and stables were erected near the house and an extensive orchard was established occupying the block now bounded by Enderley and Alexandra Roads and Florence and Craven Streets.
