Description: Taigh-Tasgaish Chill Donnain To celebrate the re-opening of Kildonan Museum in June 1988, this sculpture was commissioned from Malcolm Robertson. Set in Uist Stone, it is cut from Corten sheet steel and bears the first two verses of the song "In Praise of Uist": Moladh Uibhist O mo dhuthaich, 's tu th'air m'aire, Uibhist chumhraidh ur nan gallan, Far a faighte na daoin' uaisle, Far 'm bu dual do Mhac 'ic Ailean. Tir a'mhurain, tir an eorna, Tir 's am pailt a h-uile seorsa, Far am bi na gillean oga Gabhail oran 's 'g ol an leanna. (O my country, I think of thee, fragrant, fresh Uist of the handsome youths, where nobles might be seen, where Clan Ranald had his heritage. Land of bent-grass, land of barley, land where everything is plentiful, where young men sing songs and drink ale.)" Taigh-tasgaidh Chill Donnain is owned by the South Uist Historical Trust. The building was originally a school and was extended in 1997/8 under various grant-aided schemes. It houses many interesting displays of social history; there is also a tuition-hall for Feisean, a café, and a Craft Centre showcasing local producers.
