Description: The Telegraph 13 March 1936 POMONA At the monthly meeting of the Noosa Shire Council held at Pomona a discussion took place in connection with a suggestion by Mr. H. F. Walker, M.L.A., that the council In asking the Government to make a connection between Tewantin and the North Shore, under the Public Estates Improvement Act, merely ask for a bridge over the Noosa River in exchange for their lands to be benefited by the project in stead of also wanting a road of several miles and provision for making roads in the area given as well. It was announced that Mr. Walker was prepared to give £250 towards the proposal and Mrs. Walker 50 acres of land. It was decided, however, to seek the views of other landowners who would also benefit by the project before altering the decision. The finance committee's report for February was adopted, showing profits totalling £217, expenditure £410, and debit balance £892, considerably less than for February last year. The intermittent relief men working on the council's roads last month received £485. The committee's allotments for road improvements required during the year, totalling £1,714, were approved of. The Main Roads Commission notified the council that its request for the gazetting of the Cooroy-Tewantin main road as a tourist road had been listed for consideration, but not until more construction of the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Eumundl was carried out. Landowners in the Pinbarren district secured permission to use on the roads a non-poisonous preparation which had been found efficacious in destroying mat grass. The Department of Agriculture and Stock are trying to find out the best way to combat this pest on Mr. W. B. Grady's dairy farm at Kin Kin. In regard to giving the council control of life saving clubs operating on the coast, the Local Authorities' Association advised the council to apply to the Govemor-in-Council for a proclamation placing them under the management of the council which could then draw up bylaws to suit the case. A request of the Noosa Life Saving Club for a donation towards the cost of a new reel In connection with their patrolling of the beaches at Tewantin was met by the council agreeing to give £5.
