Description: Throwstick belonging to Pharaoh Akhenaten, created in Egypt about 1353 to 1337 BC. Found at Tell el-Amarna. Throwsticks were similar to boomerangs, and were used to hunt birds in the marshes along the Nile.

Pharaonic tombs were often decorated with images of pharaoh hunting on the Nile. Thowsticks in tombs, however, are quite rare. This one is of blue faience, a tin-based enamel glazed onto earthenware. Too fragile to be used in real life, it was a "magicial" throwstick -- to be used in the afterlife.
