Description: The historic Burro Schmidt Tunnel — through the granitic El Paso Mountains, located in the northern Mojave Desert, Southern California. View of the "exit" adit (portal), that overlooks the Fremont Valley with Koehn Dry Lake, and the ghost town of Garlock. It was a mining ore transport tunnel dug by hand by William "Burro" H. Schmidt between 1906 and 1938. Managed by the BLM−Bureau of Land Management, it is on the National Register of Historic Places in Kern County, California
