Description: During the second world war the excavated mines were used as air raid shelters, to provide protection against Luftwaffe aerial bombardment. Part of a set of images taken at the Tunnel Road Sand Caves and Mines, Reigate, Surrey, UK - during an open day presented, managed and facilitated by the Wealdon Cave and Mine Society. See also a related set of images taken at "Reconnect" - the Zíta Rá woodcarving sculpture exhibition and installation, also presented in part of the caves.
