A Look Back at India's Past
How India Began
The very first people settled in this area back in 1853. At that time, the community was known as Morgan. It was a new beginning for the settlers who made their homes there.
The Post Office Story
Later, in 1892, a post office was opened in the community. This was an important step, as it helped people send and receive mail. The post office was given the name India. It served the community for several years before it closed down in 1904. Even though the post office is gone, the name India stuck for this small Texas community.
