The Indian Journal of Medical Research is a special magazine for doctors and scientists. It shares new discoveries and studies about health and medicine. Think of it like a very important science magazine.
This journal is published by Medknow Publications. They work for the Indian Council of Medical Research. This council helps guide health research in India. Since 1977, the journal has come out every month. It usually has six issues in one year.
The journal shares new research on health topics. This includes studies on how our bodies work and how to treat illnesses. It also looks at important questions about health, like what is right or wrong in medical studies. Sometimes, it publishes articles that summarize what is already known about a topic. The main editor, who decides what gets published, is Samiran Panda. He started this job in July 2022. Besides the regular issues, the journal also puts out special editions.
How the Journal Started
The Indian Journal of Medical Research began a long time ago. It first came out in July 1913. Back then, it was published four times a year. This continued for many years.
In 1958, it started coming out every two months. Then, in 1964, it became a monthly journal. There were a few times, like in the 1940s, when it was only published twice a year. But mostly, it has been a regular publication.
From 1977, they started publishing two sets of six issues each year. This meant more articles could be shared. In 1989, the journal was split into two parts. One part focused on diseases that spread easily. The other part covered all other medical research. These two parts came back together in 1994. The journal celebrated its 100th birthday between July 2012 and July 2013.
The very first editor of the journal was Sir Pardey Lukis. He was a very important doctor in India. He was in charge of the Indian Medical Service from 1910 to 1917. He edited the journal until he passed away.
How Important Is This Journal?

- EBSCO databases

These listings show that the journal is well-known and trusted. A special score called an "impact factor" helps show how important a journal is.
