The Indianapolis White Castle #3 is a special building in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was built in 1927. This building is one of the oldest restaurants in the famous White Castle hamburger chain. In fact, it's the third oldest White Castle restaurant in the whole United States. It's also the very oldest White Castle building you can find in Indiana!

History of White Castle #3

This White Castle restaurant opened its doors in 1927. When it first started, it was quite small. It only had a little counter and some stools for people to sit and eat.

Over the years, the building changed a bit. In the 1930s, the inside got a fresh new look. Then, in the 1950s, the outside was updated. During the 1950s changes, a new part was added to the building. This made it easier for customers to pick up their food to go.

In 2011, Indianapolis White Castle #3 became very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special building because of its unique design. It also played a big part in American history. It helped start the "fast food revolution." This restaurant served customers from 1927 until 1979. That's a long time! It was the longest-running fast food restaurant in the country.

Building Design and Features

The Indianapolis White Castle #3 has a very cool look. It's made of white bricks that shine like enamel. This special type of brick was only used for White Castle buildings built between 1924 and 1929.

The building also looks a lot like a real castle! It has features that remind you of old castles. For example, it has "battlements" at the top. These are like the parts of a castle wall where soldiers would stand. It also has "buttresses" on the front. These are strong supports that stick out from the wall. And don't miss the neat corner tower! All these details make it look like a tiny, friendly castle.
