The Inman Hotel is a historic building located in Champaign, Illinois. It was built in 1915 and once served as a busy hotel. You can find it right in the heart of downtown Champaign, at the corner of University Avenue and Walnut Street. This special building is recognized for its importance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was added to this list in 1989.

Exploring the Inman Hotel's Architecture

The Inman Hotel building stands six stories tall. It was designed in a style called Classical Revival, which means it looks back to ancient Greek and Roman buildings for inspiration. The outside of the building is made of shiny yellow bricks. It also has fancy trim made from a special material called terra cotta, which is a type of baked clay.

How the Building Changed Over Time

When the Inman Hotel was first built, it only had five stories. But just a few years later, another floor was added, making it the six-story building we see today.

A Unique Shape for a Unique Spot

The land where the hotel was built has a very interesting shape. Because of this, the east wall of the building is 32 feet longer than the west wall. This means that the corners on the northeast and northwest sides don't meet at perfect right angles, making the building quite unique! The building is 80 feet wide, and its shorter west wall is 100 feet long.
