After Pedro Salmerón Sanginés, Felipe Arturo Ávila Espinosa became the new director. He studied sociology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also has a special degree called a doctorate in history from the Colegio de México. He helps guide the Institute's work in studying the Mexican Revolution.
