The International Fight League (IFL) was a special kind of mixed martial arts (MMA) league from the United States. It was the first MMA league in the world!
The IFL started on January 7, 2006. It closed down a few years later, on July 31, 2008.
What Made the IFL Different?
Most MMA events usually have one fighter battling another in a single match. But the IFL did things differently! Each IFL event was a big showdown between two teams.
How Team Fights Worked
Each team had five fighters. Every fighter from one team would compete against a fighter from the other team. It was like a team sport for MMA!
Where Could You Watch the IFL?
In the United States, fans could watch the International Fight League on TV. It was shown on Fox Sports Net and MyNetworkTV.
