David Ezra Stein was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied at the School of Design in Manhattan. When he was creating the chickens for Interrupting Chicken, he drew over a hundred different designs! He wanted to find just the right look for his characters.
Inspiration for the Book
Stein's idea for Interrupting Chicken came from a funny knock-knock joke he enjoyed as a child. His books are popular around the world. They have been translated into many languages. These include Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, and Finnish.
