Invader Zim is an exciting American comic book series. It was created by Jhonen Vasquez. This comic series continues the story from the popular animated TV show that first aired on Nickelodeon.
In February 2015, a company called Oni Press announced they would release a comic book series based on the show. Jhonen Vasquez, the original creator, worked with Nickelodeon on this project. Vasquez once said that he was always confused when people missed Invader Zim. He felt the show never stopped running in his own head! A special preview comic, called issue #0, came out on May 23, 2015. The very first main comic, issue #1, was released on July 8, 2015. New comics then came out every month until issue #50.
On February 11, 2020, it was announced that the monthly Invader Zim comic would end with issue #50. This last monthly issue came out in March 2020. A new comic series, called Invader Zim Quarterly, was planned to start in April 2020. These new comics would be released every three months. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was delayed until June 2020.

Comic Stories and Adventures
The Invader Zim comics are packed with funny and strange adventures. They continue the never-ending battle between Zim, the alien invader, and Dib, the paranormal investigator.
Monthly Comic Highlights
The monthly series ran for 50 issues. Each issue often had a main story and sometimes a shorter, extra comic. Here are a few examples of the wild plots:
- “The Returnening” (Issues #1-2): Dib finds out Zim has a new evil plan. Zim and GIR escape into space to finish it, and Dib chases them to stop it!
- “Star Donkey” (Issue #3): Zim tries to destroy Earth by summoning a "Star Donkey." Sounds weird, right?
- “The Humble Bundle of Horrors” (Issue #5): Gaz, Dib's sister, gets back at Dib for bothering her game. She forces him to become a character in an alternate universe!
- “Pants” (Issue #8): Zim teams up with aliens that look like pants! Their goal is to brainwash everyone on Earth. Dib has to save the day from the alien pants.
- "Zimmer World" (Issue #12): Zim and Dib accidentally travel to a future where Zim rules the world.
- "Dibnapped" (Issue #13): Aliens kidnap Dib because they think he's Zim's best friend.
- "Merciless Monday" (Issue #21): An accident switches Zim and GIR's bodies with Gaz and Dib's. Gaz then bets Zim she can conquer Earth better than him!
- "The Arc of Virooz" (Issues #22-25): This four-part story follows Zim as he tries to fix GIR, who is malfunctioning. He even travels into GIR's mind!
- "Darkpoop" (Issues #29-30): Dib gets caught in a secret war over a mysterious drink called "Darkpoop."
- "The Prisoner of Moo-Ping 10" (Issues #34-35): Zim gets locked up in a space prison because he forgot to pay his bill!
- "Battle Void" (Issues #46-49): Zim and Dib find themselves on a planet filled with different versions of Zim from other universes.
Quarterly Comic Adventures
After the monthly series ended, Invader Zim Quarterly began. These comics are longer and come out less often.
- "GIR's Big Day" (Quarterly #1): Zim sends GIR on a mission. GIR gets a warning from the future, meets a mad scientist, stops an alien invasion, and unleashes an ancient evil!
- "Dib's Dilemma" (Quarterly #2): Dib tries to expose Zim at a monster-hunting contest. But his plan backfires, and people think GIR is a real monster!
- Holiday Special (Quarterly #3): This issue has three holiday-themed stories. One features a Santa Suit that Zim created, another is a parody of A Christmas Carol with Zim, and the last tells the origin of Professor Membrane's dislike for Santa Claus.
Collected Comic Books
If you want to read many Invader Zim comics at once, they are also collected into bigger books. These are called "trade paperbacks" and "deluxe hardcovers." They gather several issues into one volume, making it easy to catch up on the stories. There are also "Best of..." collections that gather stories focusing on specific characters or themes, like "Best of GIR" or "Best of World Domination."
