Ion Ivanovici (also known as Iosif Ivanovici) was a famous Romanian composer and military band leader. He was born in 1845 in Timişoara and passed away in Bucharest in 1902. He is best known for his beautiful waltz, The Waves of the Danube, which is still very popular today around the world.

Ion Ivanovici: A Master of Music
During his lifetime, Ivanovici wrote over 350 different dances. His music was so popular that it was published by more than sixty companies all over the world! In 1889, he won a special prize for a march he composed for the World Exhibition in Paris. He won against 115 other entries, which shows how talented he was.
The Story of "The Waves of the Danube"
Ivanovici's most famous song is "The Waves of the Danube." In German, it's called Donauwellen. This waltz was first published in the United States in 1896. It was arranged for piano by Simon Adler and released by the Theodore Lohr Company. This beautiful piece is now known by many names, but "Danube Waves Waltz" is the most common.
