Iris Belia Chacón Tapia (born March 7, 1950) is a famous dancer, singer, and actress from Puerto Rico. She is a well-known entertainer who became a huge star in the 1970s and 1980s.

Chacón earned the nicknames "La Bomba de Puerto Rico" (The Puerto Rican Bomb) and "La Vedette de América" (America's Showgirl). She was a major celebrity in Latin America, the United States, Europe, and even Japan. She also starred in movies, telenovelas (Spanish-language soap operas), and a very famous TV commercial in Puerto Rico.

A Star on Stage and Screen

As an entertainer, Iris Chacón was known for her exciting performances. A "vedette" is the main female star of a variety show, and Chacón was considered one of the best. She traveled all over the world, performing for large audiences.

During her career, she acted in two movies and many popular telenovelas, like Yo Sé Que Mentía.

A Famous TV Commercial

In 1982, Chacón starred in a TV commercial for Amalie Oil Company's car products. This commercial became one of the most memorable in Puerto Rican history. It was so popular that The Wall Street Journal, a major American newspaper, wrote a front-page article about her and the ad in 1983. The ad was known for being clever and using a funny play on words.

Appearing on American and Spanish TV

From 1984 into the early 1990s, Chacón was a guest on several American TV shows. These included The Joan Rivers Show, The Merv Griffin Show, and Late Night with David Letterman.

The hosts were very impressed by her. David Letterman compared her to American stars Dolly Parton and Loni Anderson. Merv Griffin said she was "the answer to 'Where's the beef?'", which was a famous catchphrase from a popular Wendy's commercial at the time.

After 1985, Chacón continued to appear on many popular Spanish-language TV shows. She was a guest on programs like Anabel and Siempre en Domingo, which were made by the major TV network Televisa.
