A Historic Trial
Judge Barrios Aguilar was the main judge in a very important trial. This trial was against Efraín Ríos Montt, who used to be a leader in Guatemala. He was accused of terrible crimes against a group of people called the Ixil Mayans.
In 2013, the court found Ríos Montt guilty. This was a huge moment because it was the first time a country's own court tried a former leader for such serious crimes. However, the decision was later changed by another court. The trial was set to restart in January 2015.
