Iron Center, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Iron Center is a small, historic place in Crawford County, Missouri. It's not a city or town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that are part of the larger county area.

Iron Center was once an important spot because it was right next to the railroad. It was located about three miles southwest of a town called Cuba, along what is now Missouri Route ZZ. This road used to be part of the famous old Route 66!

What Was Iron Center?

Iron Center got its name because it was a place where iron was shipped. In the past, this area was known for its iron mining. Iron ore would be dug out of the ground and then brought to Iron Center. From there, it would be loaded onto trains and sent to other places to be used. So, it was a busy shipping point for this important metal.
