Italian Tomato Co., Ltd is a popular Japanese restaurant and cafe chain. It has its main office in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan. This company is known for its cafes and restaurants that serve Italian-style food.
A Taste of History
Italian Tomato has an interesting past! In 1986, a famous Japanese video game company called Namco bought the restaurant chain. Namco is well-known for creating many arcade and console games.
Italian Tomato in Video Games
While Namco owned Italian Tomato, the restaurant even appeared in some of their games! You could see the front of an Italian Tomato store in the background of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament. This was part of Ling Xiaoyu's stage, which looked like an amusement park. The restaurant also made a quick appearance in an old Nintendo Family Computer game called Rasāru Ishii no Childs Quest.
New Owners, Same Great Taste
In 2005, Namco decided to sell most of its shares in Italian Tomato. A company called Key Coffee, Inc. (キーコーヒー株式会社, Kīkōhī Kabushiki-gaisha) bought the majority of the shares. Key Coffee is a company that distributes food and runs cafes. Even though Namco sold most of its shares, it still owns a small part of Italian Tomato through its new name, Bandai Namco Games.
