Building and Art
Like his father and grandfather, Itzamnaaj Bahlam IV ordered many monuments to be built. These monuments helped to record his rule and important events. They included tall stone slabs called stelae, and carved stone panels called lintels. Some examples are Stelae 5, 7, and 20. He also commissioned Lintels 12, 13, and 51, and Hieroglyphic Stairway 5.
Family and Advisors
Itzamnaaj Bahlam IV had a very close relationship with his mother's brother, his maternal uncle. This uncle might have helped him rule after his father passed away. He may have also held another important job in the king's government. On the day Itzamnaaj Bahlam IV was born, his mother and uncle performed a special ritual. This ritual involved calling upon K'awiil, a Maya god.
Military Actions
Itzamnaaj Bahlam IV was involved in military actions against smaller towns near Yaxchilan. He also formed alliances with other sites, like Laxtunich. On August 27, 783, a general named Aj Chak Maax brought captives to Itzamnaaj Bahlam IV as gifts. This event was carved into stone by a sculptor named Mayuy Ti' Chuween. This sculptor also worked at Laxtunich.
Important Connections
