Ivan Kušan (born August 30, 1933 – died November 20, 2012) was a famous Croatian writer. He is best known for his exciting books for children.
Ivan was born in Sarajevo, which was then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. His father, Jakša Kušan, owned a bookstore. In 1939, when Ivan was six years old, his family moved to Zagreb. When he was just ten, Ivan discovered his talent for writing. He even wrote his first novel at that young age!

Early Career and Interests
As he grew up, Ivan Kušan developed a love for traveling the world. He also enjoyed visual arts, like painting and drawing. In the 1950s, he started working at Radio Zagreb. This was a big radio station in Croatia.
Later, from 1980 to 1994, he shared his knowledge with others. He taught at the Drama Arts Academy, which is part of the University of Zagreb.
Writing for Young Readers
Ivan Kušan published his first book in 1956. He became especially good at writing novels for children. Many of his books became very popular.
Two of his most famous children's books are Lažeš, Melita (which means You're Lying, Melita) and Koko u Parizu (Koko in Paris). These stories captured the imaginations of many young readers.
Other Works
Besides his children's books, Ivan Kušan also wrote novels for adults. One of these was about a famous outlaw named Jovo Stanisavljević Čaruga. This book was later made into a movie in 1991. The film was called Čaruga.
Later Years
Ivan Kušan was married two times. He had one son from his first marriage. Sadly, he had several strokes later in his life. He passed away in Zagreb, Croatia, on November 20, 2012.
