Ivar Thomassen (born July 19, 1954 – died November 28, 2016) was a talented Norwegian musician. He was known as a folk singer, a songwriter, and a jazz pianist.

Ivar Thomassen grew up in Russenes, a place in Porsanger, Norway. He later lived in Alta. From 1989 to 1997, he worked as a special musician for the Vadsø area. This meant he helped bring music to the community.

His Music and Songs

Ivar Thomassen wrote and sang many folk songs. These songs often told stories about the beautiful nature, culture, and history of the Finnmark region. Some of his famous songs are Imella multebær og mygg and Det artige landet. Local choirs often perform these songs. People from Finnmark know them very well.

Ivar was also a skilled jazz pianist. He played in big bands and jazz groups. He even wrote his own jazz music. He loved sharing music with others. He performed at school concerts and arranged music for different groups. He also composed music for choirs and taught piano lessons.

Ivar Thomassen taught at Alta High School. He worked with students in the music, dance, and drama program. Besides music, he also wrote a book for young people. It was called Operasjon kråkereir.
