Early Days of the Club

The Ixion Bicycle Club officially began in New York on September 28, 1885. However, the group had already been holding annual races since 1881. In 1883, the club had nine members. Their president was a person named B.G. Sandford.

The Club's Races

The club's annual race was a big event for cyclists. It started from Peabody House in Yonkers, New York. The race would then finish in New York City, at the corner of 59th Street (Manhattan) and Western Boulevard.

Club Colors and Uniform

Members of the Ixion Bicycle Club had a special look. They wore suits that were black and blue. These suits were made from a strong fabric called serge. During the summer months, the club members also wore a blue cap.

What Happened to the Club?

In June 1887, many cyclists who were once part of the Ixion Bicycle Club joined another group. Forty-eight former Ixion members became part of the New York Bicycle Club.
