In 1883, the Ixion Bicycle Club had nine members. Their president was B.G. Sandford. Members of the club had a special look. They wore black and blue uniforms made from a strong fabric called serge. During the summer, the club members also wore a blue cap. This helped them look like a team and stand out.
What Happened to the Club?
The Ixion Bicycle Club eventually saw its members move on. In June 1887, forty-eight cyclists who had been part of the Ixion Bicycle Club joined a new group. They became members of the New York Bicycle Club. This shows how cycling clubs were growing and changing during that time.
