Yizhar Peled (Hebrew: יזהר פלד; 1961 – 7 October 2023) was an important Israeli police officer. He held the high rank of Assistant Commissioner. He served as the commander of the West Bank Border Police until he retired in 2020. Sadly, he passed away in October 2023 during a conflict in his home village of Kfar Aza.

Life and Career of Yizhar Peled
Yizhar Peled began his service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He was part of the special Paratroopers Brigade. He worked hard and became an officer.
Early Police Roles
In 1995, Peled joined the Border Police. He was appointed commander of the Gaza Border Police Operations Center. The Border Police helps keep areas safe and secure. In 1996, he became the Chief Operations Officer for the Central District Border Police. He then returned to the Gaza Border Police in 1999 as Chief Operations Officer.
Rising Through the Ranks
Peled continued to advance in his career. In 2001, he became the Settlement Branch Officer in the Border Police. By 2004, he was promoted to Head of Operations. In March 2005, he earned the rank of Commander. He was then appointed Deputy Commander of the West Bank Border Police.
In 2007, he led the Settlement and Volunteers Department. Later, in 2010, he became the Commander of the Arava Border Police. In 2011, he took charge as the Commander of the Southern District Border Police.
Leading Jerusalem Border Police
On November 27, 2012, Peled became the Commander of the Jerusalem Border Police. He held the rank of Assistant Commissioner. During his time there, he managed the police response to challenging security situations in East Jerusalem. At the same time, his family, living in Kfar Aza, faced security threats from the Gaza Strip.
West Bank Command and Retirement
In July 2016, Peled was appointed Commander of the West Bank Border Police. He served in this role until he retired from the police force in July 2020.
Personal Life
Yizhar Peled was married to Gila, who worked as a nurse. They had four children together. He lived in the village of Kfar Aza.
Yizhar Peled, along with his wife Gila and one of his sons, died at their home in Kfar Aza. This happened on October 7, 2023, during a surprise attack on Israel.
