Jürgen Marcus was a popular German singer. He was born Jürgen Beumer on June 6, 1948. He became famous in the 1970s, especially for his schlager music. Schlager is a type of pop music that is very popular in Germany and other European countries. Jürgen Marcus had many hit songs during his career. He also represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976. He passed away on May 17, 2018.

A Star is Born: Early Career
Jürgen Marcus started his music career in 1970. He quickly became very popular. His first song to appear on the music charts came out in the same year. He then had three songs in a row that reached the top 10 in 1972 and 1973.
His most successful song was "Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben." This song reached number 2 on the charts. Jürgen Marcus was often seen on German TV music shows. In 1972, he even appeared in a movie called Heut hau'n wir auf die Pauke.
Singing for Eurovision
The Eurovision Song Contest is a big music competition. Countries from all over Europe compete with their best songs. In 1975, Jürgen Marcus tried to represent Germany in Eurovision. His song was called "Ein Lied zieht hinaus in die Welt." Even though it only came in ninth place in the German selection, it became a huge hit. It reached number 3 on the charts.
In 1976, Jürgen Marcus got another chance to go to Eurovision. This time, he represented Luxembourg. He sang a song called "Chansons pour ceux qui s'aiment," which means "Songs For Those Who Love Each Other." He won the selection in Luxembourg. The Eurovision contest was held in The Hague. His song placed 14th out of 18 entries.
Later Years and Retirement
After the 1970s, Jürgen Marcus's music was not as popular on the charts. He stopped working with his record company in 1979. He had one more small hit song in 1981. After that, he mostly stayed out of the spotlight for a while.
He released a new album in 2004, which was his first in over 20 years. He also released a Christmas album in 2006. Another album with new songs came out in 2008, and his last album was released in 2011.
In April 2017, Jürgen Marcus announced that he was retiring from music. He said he had a lung disease called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He passed away in May 2018 in Munich, just before his 70th birthday.
