Elmer Claybourne (born March 8, 1910, died January 7, 1960) was a famous American professional wrestler. Many people knew him by his exciting ring name, Jack Claybourne. He was a strong and popular athlete during the 1940s and 1950s.
Jack Claybourne's Wrestling Journey
Jack Claybourne started his wrestling career in 1931. He quickly became known for his skills in the ring.
On September 2, 1941, Jack won the Kentucky Negro Wrestling Championship. He defeated Hallie Samara in Louisville, Kentucky. The next year, he lost this title to King Kong Clayton.
Jack Claybourne also won other important titles in the United States. These included the Negro World Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Wrestling Titles. His talent was recognized far beyond the U.S. He became a champion in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
He wrestled a lot in places like Maple Leaf Wrestling in Toronto, Canada, and 50th State Big Time Wrestling in Hawaii. These were part of the National Wrestling Alliance. Jack became a very big star in these areas during the 1940s and 1950s.
