Forming The Chantels

As children, Jackie and her friends Arlene Smith, Lois Harris, Sonia Goring, and Rene Minus sang together. They performed in their local church choir at the Saint Anthony Padua School. Their shared talent and friendship led them to form a music group called The Chantels. They became one of the earliest successful black girl groups.

Life After Music

After her time singing with The Chantels, Jackie chose a different career path. She became a Court Reporter for the Bronx Criminal Court. This job involved recording everything said in court. While working there, she usually didn't talk much about her past as a singer.

Returning to the Stage

Later, oldies music and rock and roll became popular again. This led to many music revivals. During this time, Jackie decided to return to her singing career. She once again performed the songs that made The Chantels famous.

Her Legacy

Jackie Landry Jackson was buried in Saint Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx. She is remembered as a key part of a pioneering music group that helped shape pop music history.
