A Home with History
The Jacob Weber House was built way back in 1863. It was designed and built by Jacob Weber himself.
Who Was Jacob Weber?
Jacob Weber was an important person in the community. He served as the Postmaster for what was then known as Kilbourn City. A Postmaster is the person in charge of a post office, making sure mail gets delivered! Kilbourn City later became the Wisconsin Dells we know today.
The Bennett Family's Home
Years later, in 1891, a famous photographer named H. H. Bennett bought the house. Bennett was known for his amazing pictures of the Wisconsin Dells area. His family lived in the Jacob Weber House for many years, all the way until 1971.
Becoming a Historic Landmark
Because of its age and importance, the Jacob Weber House was recognized as a special historical site.
- In 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of buildings, sites, and objects across the United States that are important to American history.
- Then, in 1989, it was also listed on the State Register of Historic Places for Wisconsin. This means it's recognized as a significant historical place within the state.
