Jairo Aníbal Niño (born September 5, 1941, in Moniquirá, Boyacá – died August 30, 2010, in Bogotá) was a famous Colombian writer. He was especially known for his amazing contributions to children's books. Jairo Aníbal Niño also worked as a university professor, directed the National Library of Colombia, wrote screenplays, and led theater workshops. In 1977, he received the important Colombian National Literature award.

Jairo Aníbal Niño was born in Boyacá, Colombia, in 1941. He spent his childhood in his hometown, Moniquirá. Later, his family moved to Bucaramanga because of a difficult situation in their city.

He first wanted to be a painter, but soon discovered his love for theater. He started as an actor, then became a director and a playwright, writing plays. Some of his early plays include El monte calvo and Las bodas de lata.

Jairo Aníbal Niño's life experiences often appeared in his books. He loved to write about the beautiful landscapes, nature, and history of Boyacá. He often wrote about everyday people like workers, farmers, students, and especially children. Many of his books were published by Panamericana Editorial.

He was the director of the National Library of Colombia until 1990. Jairo Aníbal Niño wrote many storybooks and poems for young readers. Children of all ages often felt like he was a true friend through his stories. He was supported by his wife, Irene Morales, and his three children, Santiago, Paula, and Alejandra, to whom he often dedicated his work.

Jairo Aníbal Niño passed away on August 30, 2010, at 68 years old. He left behind many wonderful stories that are still important in Colombian literature for children.
