Jam'iyat-e Nesvan-e Vatankhah facts for kids
Jam'iyat-e Nesvân-e Vatankhâh (Persian: جمعیت نسوان وطنخواه) was a very important group in Iran. It worked from 1922 to 1933 to help women gain more rights. This group was formed after the Persian Constitutional Revolution, which was a big change in Iran's government.
History of the Society
The Society of Patriotic Women started in 1922. It was first called Jamʿīyat-e taraqqī-e neswān. The main people who started it were Mohtaram Eskandari, who was a school director, Noor-ol-Hoda Mangeneh, and Mastoureh Afshar. They felt that the revolution hadn't done enough for women.
The group had clear goals. They wanted to:
- Always respect Islamic laws and traditions.
- Improve education and good behavior for girls.
- Support Iranian businesses and products.
- Help adult women learn to read and write.
- Care for girls who had lost their parents.
- Build hospitals for women who couldn't afford care.
- Create co-operative groups to help national industries grow.
- Give help to those defending the country during war.
This organization was known for trying to connect with women's groups in other countries in the region.
The Society of Patriotic Women held talks and started campaigns to spread their ideas. They also published an important magazine called Nosvan Vatankhah, which means 'Patriotic Women'. This magazine started in 1922.
After Mohtaram Eskandari passed away in 1925, Mastoureh Afshar became the new president of the group. Other important women like Nur-al-Hoda Mangana and Fakhr Afaq Parsa supported her. In 1925, the group had 74 members.
In 1932, the society organized a big meeting called the Oriental Women's Congress in Tehran. After this meeting, the group stopped its activities. A new group called Kanoun-e-Banovan took over its work in 1935.
The Nesvan–e Vatankhah Magazine
The Nesvan–e Vatankhah magazine was a key part of the Patriotic Women’s Association. It started in 1922. The main goal of the association, and the magazine, was to fight for women's right to education.
The association had a board of directors with ten elected women. They chose Mohtaram Eskandari as the first leader of the group.
The magazine Nesvan–e Vatankhah (meaning 'The Patriotic Women' in Persian) was the official publication of the association. It focused on issues important to women and their rights. It also helped promote the classes the association offered for older women. Madam Molouk Eskandari owned the magazine, and Mohtaram Eskandari was its first director. The magazine published eleven issues over three years, from 1923 to 1926. Many women who believed in freedom and progress were interested in it.
