James Sproule Myles (1877 – 13 February 1956) was an important Irish person. He was a brave soldier, a dedicated politician, and a talented rugby union player. He received a special award for his bravery as a soldier. He also served in the Irish parliament for many years.

James Myles loved playing rugby. He played for the City of Derry team. He also played for the Irish national team!
First Overseas Tour
In October 1899, James Myles went on a special trip. He and his teammate Arnold Harvey joined the Irish team. They went on a tour of Canada. This was the first time the Irish rugby team ever traveled overseas.
During the tour, James Myles broke his leg. He had to stay in Canada until December. The rest of his team went home in November.
A Brave Soldier
James Myles was a soldier in the British Army. He fought during World War I. He served with two different groups: the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the Royal Engineers.
Military Honors
He was very brave during the war. He earned a special award called the Military Cross. This award is given for acts of bravery in battle. He also reached a high rank, becoming a Major.
Life in Ireland
In February 1922, James Myles was part of a group. About 40 people were taken against their will. They were known as Unionists.

James Myles was an Independent politician. This means he did not belong to a specific political party. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD). A TD is a member of Dáil Éireann, which is the main part of the Irish parliament.
Serving the People
He was a TD for twenty years! He was first elected in the 1923 general election. He won the most votes in that election. He was re-elected six more times after that. Each time, he received the most first-choice votes.
He first represented the area of Donegal. Later, in 1937, his area changed. He then represented Donegal East.
End of His Political Career
James Myles lost his seat in the 1943 general election. He tried to get re-elected in the 1944 general election, but he was not successful.
He passed away in 1956. He is buried at St. Anne's Church in Ballyshannon, County Donegal.
