A Closer Look at the Design
Most of the house has wooden siding called clapboards. But the front of the house looks like it's made of stone. This is because it uses a special type of wood siding called flushboarding.
The roof at the front of the house sticks out. It forms a covered porch area called a portico. This portico has a triangular top, like a classic Greek temple. It is held up by three thin columns. These columns are in a style called Doric. There's even a small window in the triangular part of the roof.
Underneath this porch, the front of the house has two main sections. The main door is on the left side. It has tall, narrow windows on either side. These are called sidelight windows. Above the door is a decorative band called an entablature.
