Jamie Moses is a Canadian politician. He is currently a Minister in the government of Manitoba. A minister is a person who leads a specific department, like economic development or natural resources. Since October 18, 2023, he has been the Minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources.
Mr. Moses is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the area called St. Vital. An MLA is like a representative for a specific part of the province. He has held this role since 2019. Jamie Moses is a member of the Manitoba New Democratic Party (Manitoba NDP).

Jamie Moses was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He went to River East Collegiate for high school. Later, he studied at the University of Manitoba. He earned a degree in Agribusiness. This field combines business skills with farming and food production.
Mr. Moses is also a talented athlete. He was once named the top male athlete in Manitoba for high school sports. He holds a record for the most receiving yards in a single football game. He also played football for the University of Manitoba Bisons team. Before becoming a politician, he worked in finance and technology. He also worked for the Canadian Wheat Board.
His Work in Politics
In the 2019 Manitoba general election, Jamie Moses was elected as the MLA for St. Vital. This was a big moment for Manitoba. Mr. Moses, along with Uzoma Asagwara and Audrey Gordon, became one of the first three Black Canadian MLAs elected in the province's history.
As an MLA, he worked on important issues. By 2021, he was the Official Opposition Critic for Economic Development and Training. This means he was the main spokesperson for his party on these topics. He would question the government's plans and suggest new ideas.
Mr. Moses had run for the NDP before. In the 2016 election, he came in second place. He was elected in 2019 after defeating the previous MLA for St. Vital, Colleen Mayer.
In October 2021, Jamie Moses introduced a special bill. It was called Bill 232. This bill proposed to make August 1 a special day in Manitoba. This day would be known as Emancipation Day. It would remember the day slavery officially ended in the British Empire in 1834. The Legislative Assembly voted for this bill, and it became law.
