Her Early Life and Acting Career
Jane Johnson was born in England, either in 1704 or 1706. A writer named Richard Savage was her guardian. Jane started her acting career at the famous Drury Lane Theatre.
In 1725, Jane Johnson married Theophilus Cibber. He was also an actor, and his father, Colley Cibber, was a well-known actor and theater manager. Jane and Theophilus had four children together. Even with a growing family, Jane continued to act on stage.
She performed in many different types of plays. When another actress, Elizabeth Younger, left to work for a different theater company, Jane took over some of her important roles. In 1731, Jane played the main character, Caelia, in a play called Caelia.
Jane Cibber passed away in 1733 after giving birth. Her husband, Theophilus, said he would never marry again, but he did remarry in 1734.
