Her Early Life
Theresa Jane Fitzalan-Howard was born on January 24, 1945. She was the youngest of four daughters. Her parents were Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, the 16th Duke of Norfolk, and Lavinia Strutt.
She grew up in a very old and important family home called Arundel Castle. This castle is located in West Sussex, England. Her family, the Fitzalan-Howards, is one of the oldest and most well-known noble families in England.
Family and Marriage
On June 7, 1975, Lady Jane married Michael Kerr. He was a politician who served as a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party. Michael Kerr later became the 13th Marquess of Lothian in 2004, after his father passed away.
Theresa and Michael lived at Monteviot House. They had three daughters together. Their first daughter, Lady Sarah Margaret Kerr, was born and died in 1976.
Their second daughter, Lady Clare Therese Kerr, was born on January 25, 1979. She married Nick Hurd in 2010. Lady Clare and Nick have two children: Leila Rose Hurd, born in 2012, and Caspar Jamie Hurd, born in 2014.
Their third daughter, Lady Mary Cecil Kerr, was born on May 28, 1981. She married Zackary Adler in 2016. Lady Mary and Zackary have one child, Ocean Jude Adler, who was born in 2022.
Michael Kerr, her husband, passed away on October 1, 2024, after a short illness.
Important Titles
In 2017, Theresa Kerr inherited an old Scottish title. She became the Lady Herries of Terregles. She received this title after her older sister passed away.
Her father had inherited this same title from his mother, Gwendolen, who was the Duchess of Norfolk. This means the title has been passed down through her family for a long time.
