Lady Theresa Jane Kerr was born Lady Jane Fitzalan-Howard on January 24, 1945. She is the youngest of four daughters of Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, who was the 16th Duke of Norfolk, and Lavinia Strutt. Her family, the Fitzalan-Howards, is one of the oldest and most well-known noble families in England.
She grew up at Arundel Castle in West Sussex, which is her family's historic home. Her older sisters were Anne, Mary, and Sarah.
Family Life
On June 7, 1975, Lady Jane married Michael Kerr. He was a Conservative Member of Parliament, which means he was elected to help make laws for the country. Michael was also the son of the 12th Marquess of Lothian.
In 2004, her husband became the 13th Marquess of Lothian after his father passed away. They lived at Monteviot House. Michael Kerr passed away on October 1, 2024.
Lady Theresa Jane and Michael had three daughters:
- Lady Sarah Margaret Kerr (born and died on June 13, 1976)
- Lady Clare Therese Kerr (born on January 25, 1979)
- Lady Clare married Nick Hurd in 2010.
- They have two children: Leila Rose Hurd (born May 17, 2012) and Caspar Jamie Hurd (born September 30, 2014).
- Lady Mary Cecil Kerr (born on May 28, 1981)
- Lady Mary married Zackary Adler on May 28, 2016.
- They have one child: Ocean Jude Adler (born May 26, 2022).
Special Titles and Work
In 2017, Lady Theresa Jane inherited an old Scottish title called the Lordship of Herries of Terregles. She received this title after her older sister passed away. Her father had inherited this title from his mother, Gwendolen, who was the 12th Lady Herries of Terregles.
Lady Clare, her eldest living daughter, is expected to inherit this title next. Lady Lothian also supports various charities and events, such as the Right to Life Trust and the Royal Caledonian Ball.
