Barbara Jane Tanner, known as Jane Tanner, was born on November 29, 1946, in Melbourne, Australia. She is a well-known Australian artist who illustrates children's books.
Before she started illustrating, Jane studied painting and printmaking at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. She worked as a traditional artist for many years. In 1989, Jane won a big award for her work. It was the Children's Book of the Year Award: Picture Book from the Children's Book Council. She won this award for her illustrations in the book Drac and the Gremlin, written by Allan Baillie.
Becoming an Illustrator
Before she started illustrating books, Jane Tanner worked as a teacher in Victoria, Australia. She uses different art materials for her illustrations. These include soft pastels, watercolours, and gouache (a type of paint).
However, she is most famous for her beautiful work with coloured pencils. For over 25 years, Jane has created more than 13 picture books. Some of these books she wrote herself. She has also designed many book covers.
