Jane Woodward (born 1823 or 1824 – died 27 October 1894) was an English writer. She was also a kind person who used her time and money to help others.

Her Early Life

Jane Woodward was born in Framfield, a village in Sussex, England. Her parents were John and Catherine Woodward. Her father, John, had inherited a place called Streele Place. This meant Jane had enough money to live comfortably without needing to work when she grew up.

Jane had six brothers and sisters. One of her brothers, Lionel Mabbott Woodward, later became an important judge far away in the Federated Malay States.

Her Adventures in Writing

Jane Woodward loved to travel and write about her journeys. One of her books was called Our Summer Holiday. In this book, she wrote all about her trips to beautiful places. These included the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands in the UK. She also visited the city of Edinburgh.

Jane often went on these holidays with her good friend, Mary Eyre. Mary was also a writer and loved to explore new places.

Helping Others

Jane Woodward cared a lot about people in her community. She regularly volunteered her time to help others. In London's West End, she helped at a group called the Work Society. She also joined other women to help at Mothers' Meetings.

Jane also taught classes for young people. She ran Sunday School classes for boys. She also taught a Bible class for young women. In her book Our Summer Holiday, Jane wrote about the lives of the working mothers she met through these activities. She wanted to share their stories.

Her Later Life

Jane Woodward never married. She passed away in Hastings, Sussex, on 27 October 1894.
